Nicosia: Cyprus ranks first in Europe in achieving viral suppression for all people living with HIV, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Health Ministry Dr. Elissavet Constantinou said on Thursday. She described this as "particularly honorable for Cyprus" to be among the first countries in Europe to achieve the 95-95-95 targets by 2024, exceeding 98% in all indicators.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Dr. Constantinou spoke at a press conference in view of World AIDS Day, highlighting that these results reflect the high quality of Cyprus' health services, the systematic work of professionals in the field, and close cooperation with civil society. She emphasized that World AIDS Day serves as a reminder that prevention, raising awareness, and access to care remain central to the national effort in addressing HIV infection.
During the press conference, figures were presented on prevention policies, with key focus on the introduction of PrEP prophylaxis from October 2025 and the enhancement of diagnosis and care mechanisms to ensure timely access to treatment.
This year's World AIDS Day message, 'Overcoming challenges, redefining our response to HIV/AIDS,' reflects, according to Dr. Constantinou, the Ministry's vision for a society without discrimination and social stigma.
