Cyprus Showcases FinTech Potential at US Blockchain Summit

Washington:The Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry, through the Cyprus Trade Centre (CTC) in New York, represented Cyprus at the international blockchain summit titled 'The Future of Money, Governance, and the Law 2026'. The event took place from September 29 to October 2 in Washington and New York.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the summit was organized by the Government Blockchain Association, an international non-profit organization, serving as a pivotal gathering in the US for policymakers, business leaders, investors, and technology experts. Key discussions revolved around the implications of artificial intelligence, blockchain, and quantum computing on international governance and financial infrastructure, as well as regulatory frameworks and digital assets.

During the conference, the CTC in New York managed an information stand to promote Cyprus as a European business hub, highlighting its innovation prospects, financial technology sector, and the advantages of its EU single market participation.

Cyprus' Commercial Counsellor in New York, Aristos Constantinou, participated in a round-table discussion at the Capitol with US officials and industry leaders, including Charles Hoskinson, co-founder of Ethereum and founder of Cardano. The discussion centered on regulatory frameworks, digital sovereignty, and cross-border innovation.

The summit concluded with a forum at the United Nations headquarters in New York on October 2, focusing on the impact of emerging technologies on financial systems. Constantinou participated as a panelist with Michael Terpin, an entrepreneur and investor in digital assets, and Anthony Howell, the Government of Bermuda's Director and Representative in Washington. The discussion, moderated by Heather Leigh Flannery, focused on cross-border cooperation in regulatory oversight of digital assets.

The participation of Cyprus in the summit is part of the Ministry's efforts to enhance the global presence of Cypriot service providers and promote Cyprus as a growing international business hub in the digital economy and emerging technology sectors.
