Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has released its forecast for the sea area surrounding Cyprus, predicting generally calm conditions with slight variations in wind patterns over the next 24 hours. The forecast covers an area extending 8 kilometers seawards from the coast.
According to Cyprus News Agency, a weak high-pressure system is currently influencing the region. The weather is expected to remain mainly fine, although there may be periods of increased cloud cover in certain localities. During the night and early morning hours, local mist and low cloud formation are anticipated, which could reduce visibility to moderate or poor levels.
The sea surface temperature is recorded at 19°C, with no weather warnings issued for the forecast period. Wind conditions along the west, south, east, and north coasts are expected to vary slightly. During the night, winds on the west coast will start as northwest to northeast at Beaufort scale 3, shifting to east to southeast at 3 to 4. By morning, winds wil
l be southeast at 3 to 4, occasionally reaching 4 locally, with similar conditions expected in the afternoon.
The south coast will experience northwest to northeast winds at Beaufort scale 3 during the night, transitioning to northeast to east at 3 to 4. These winds will continue into the morning and afternoon with slight local variations.
For the east coast, nighttime winds will begin as northwest to northeast at scale 3, later turning northeast to east at 3 to 4. Morning and afternoon winds will follow a similar pattern, occasionally reaching scale 4 locally.
Lastly, the north coast will see nighttime winds from northeast to southeast at scale 3, changing to northeast to east at 3 to 4. Morning winds will be northeast at 3 to 4, with afternoon winds remaining northeast at scale 4.
The atmospheric pressure at the time of the forecast issuance was measured at 1011 hPa, and the overall state of the sea is expected to range from smooth to slight throughout the forecast period.
