Cyprus Ranks Second in EU for Availability of Mammography Units

Nicosia:The availability of mammography units in Cyprus reached 6.9 units per 100,000 inhabitants in 2024, making it the second-highest rate among EU countries for which data were available.

According to Cyprus News Agency, only Greece surpassed Cyprus with a higher availability of 7.6 units per 100,000 inhabitants. Italy followed Cyprus with 3.7 units per 100,000 inhabitants. In contrast, Poland, Czechia, Sweden, and Romania recorded the lowest availability, at 1.1 units per 100,000 inhabitants.

Regarding breast cancer screening, only 29.2% of women aged 50 to 69 in Cyprus had undergone a mammography within the previous two years in 2024. This was the second-lowest rate among EU countries with available data. Hungary had the lowest screening rate at 27.2%, while Poland, Latvia, and Austria had rates of 33.8%, 38.2%, and 41.3%, respectively.
