Cyprus President, Nicos Anastasiades, will pay a state visit to the Vatican on October 23-25.
During his meetings, among others with Pope Francis, President Anastasiades will brief about the latest developments on the Cyprus problem, his efforts for the resumption of talks and the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean.
According to a written statement by the President’s press office Director, Andreas Iosif, after the official welcoming ceremony at the Holy See, Anastasiades will meet with Pope Francis, while during his visit he will also meet with Cardinal Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parlin, and Foreign Minister, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.
Iosif noted that the President will brief his interlocutors about the latest developments on the Cyprus problem, his efforts for the resumption of talks and the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean. The agenda of discussions will also include the migration issue, climate change, regional developments, while views will be exchanged on the further enhancement of bilateral relations.
According to Iosif the President will convey once more his thanks to the Pope for the establishment of a Holy See nunciature in Nicosia.
The Republic of Cyprus and the Holy See maintain excellent relations and have strong bonds of friendship and history, Iosif concluded.
