Cyprus President refers to initiatives for trilateral cooperation at Asia – Europe Meeting

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades, addressed the 13th Asia – Europe Meeting, which took place via teleconference, in Cambodia and concluded on Friday afternoon, referring to the role of multilateralism and the cooperation between countries and the initiatives undertaken by Cyprus and Greece in this direction.

In a written statement, Deputy Government Spokesperson Niovi Parisinou said that President Anastasiades referred to the importance of an effective multilateral system with the UN it is core, would be in place to effectively deal with today`s and tomorrow`s world challenges, a presidency press release says.

Returns of Syrians to their country not possible due to the ongoing war, Foreign Minister says

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Christodoulides said on Friday that returns of Syrians to their country were not possible due to the ongoing war there.

Christodoulides told the members of the ad hoc House Committee on the demographic issue that due to the Syrian war the conditions for safe and voluntary return were not yet in place. This is the EU’s position, he said, that has been confirmed just recently.
