Cyprus President Asserts Humanitarian Aid to Gaza Must Remain Unobstructed

Nicosia: The continuous flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza is something that cannot be hindered by anyone, stated President Nikos Christodoulides during a media briefing on the sidelines of an event in Nicosia. The President emphasized the importance of maintaining a steady stream of aid to the region, highlighting its critical nature amidst ongoing challenges.

According to Cyprus News Agency, President Christodoulides addressed criticism from within Cyprus regarding the government’s stance towards Israel. He underscored the message that political agendas should not influence humanitarian efforts, stating, “not everything lends itself to an election campaign.” The President firmly reiterated that any attempt to obstruct the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza is condemnable, reflecting the official position of the Republic of Cyprus.

President Christodoulides also highlighted Cyprus’s proactive involvement, referencing the ‘Amalthea’ plan as a key initiative led by the Republic of Cyprus to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza. He noted that this initiative received widespread support from the international community, particularly from the Arab world, despite some opposition within Cyprus. The President urged caution, reminding stakeholders that humanitarian efforts should transcend political maneuvers and election campaigns.
