Nicosia:The Cyprus National Addictions Authority has issued a public health warning concerning the contents of e-cigarette liquids and certain herbal products. This warning follows an inspection conducted in collaboration with the Cyprus Police, the Pharmaceutical Services, and the Health Inspectorate, during which these products were seized.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the analysis of the seized items revealed the presence of new cannabinoids, with six different cannabinoids being detected in a single e-cigarette liquid. These findings highlight concerns over the presence of potent psychoactive cannabinoids in products that consumers may mistakenly perceive as low-risk.
The Authority emphasizes that the effects of many of these substances on humans are not well-studied, and the potential impact of their mixtures is unknown. Users of such products may experience adverse effects, including rapid heartbeat, severe drowsiness, confusion, anxiety, or panic, and in severe cases, poisoning or psychotic symptoms.
The public is urged to avoid using products with unknown contents, refrain from combining them with alcohol or other drugs, and avoid driving after their use. In case of feeling unwell, individuals are advised to seek medical help and inform healthcare professionals about the specific product used, retaining the packaging for reference.
In situations involving loss of consciousness, difficulty breathing, or seizures, it is advised to call an ambulance immediately and not leave the affected person alone. The public is encouraged to contact emergency services by dialing 112 if severe symptoms occur.
