Cyprus is monitoring normalisation of Israeli-Turkish relations, says Government Spokesman

We are monitoring Israel and Turkey’s efforts to normalise relations, Government Spokesman Marios Pelekanos told CNA on Thursday, adding that under no circumstances these are directed against or affect Cyprus’ relations with Israel.

Asked by CN? to comment on the restoration of diplomatic relations between Israel and Turkey, Pelekanos said this does not affect nor is against Nicosia’s relations with Tel Aviv.

In any case, we have received clear assurances from the Israeli side at a high level in the framework of complete transparency and the close relations we maintain with Israel, he told CNA.

Relations between states, under no circumstances can be regarded as a zero-sum game, said Pelecanos, adding “our bilateral cooperation is of a strategic nature and is based on international law, honesty and mutual respect.”

This, he added, is confirmed by the multilateral cooperation we have developed with Israel, both under a trilateral scheme with Greece’s participation and under the 3+1 multilateral scheme with the participation of the US.
