Cyprus Experiencing Weak Low Pressure Affecting Sea Conditions

Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast for the sea area of Cyprus, indicating that weak low pressure is currently affecting the region. The forecast, which covers an area extending 8 kilometers seawards, predicts mainly fine weather conditions with locally increased low cloud coverage. During dawn, there is a possibility of local mist or fog patches particularly over the eastern parts.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the atmospheric pressure at the time of the forecast issuance was recorded at 1014 hPa. Visibility in the region is expected to be good, although it may reduce to moderate or poor in misty conditions. The sea surface temperature is noted to be 18°C. Importantly, there are no warnings currently in place for the area.

The wind conditions in different coastal areas of Cyprus are expected to vary throughout the day. On the west coast, winds will range from west to northwest at a Beaufort scale of 3 to 4 in the afternoon, shifting to northeast 3 at night, and southwest 3 in the morning, with the state of the sea remaining smooth to slight. Similarly, the south coast will experience southwest to west winds reaching 4, and occasionally 4 to 5, during the afternoon. The winds will turn northwest 3 at night and northwest to northeast 3, soon shifting to south to southwest in the morning, maintaining a smooth to slight sea state.

The east coast is forecasted to have south to southwest winds at 4, occasionally up to 4 to 5, in the afternoon, transitioning to west to northwest 3 at night, and southeast to southwest 3, soon south to southwest, in the morning. The sea state will remain smooth to slight throughout. Lastly, the north coast will experience southwest to northwest winds at 3 to 4 in the afternoon, southeast to southwest 3 at night, and southwest 3 in the morning, with the sea conditions remaining smooth to slight.

The forecast period covered is from 1200 on April 22, 2026, until 1200 on April 23, 2026, with all times indicated as local times.
