Brussels: Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection, Nicholas Ioannides, traveled to Brussels on Wednesday to participate in the second political trilogue on the proposed Regulation concerning the Return of Third-Country Nationals who lack legal rights to remain within the European Union.
According to Cyprus News Agency, a press release from the Deputy Ministry stated that the trilogue will address critical topics, including the initiation of the return procedure, issuance of return decisions, imposition of entry bans, and the effective enforcement of such decisions.
The press release further highlighted that the Republic of Cyprus, currently presiding over the Council of the EU, is actively engaging in the negotiations. The goal is to reach an agreement, acknowledging that the adoption of the Regulation is a priority for the Member States, the European Commission, and the European Parliament.
The proposed Regulation aims to complement the legal framework established by the Pact on Migration and Asylum and to enhance its effectiveness. The press release added that the Return Regulation will act as a significant legal tool for managing returns and migration in general.
