Cyprus’ Defence Minister travels to Prague for informal meeting with EU counterparts

Cyprus’ Defence Minister, Charalambos Petrides, is travelling to Prague on Sunday to participate in an informal meeting of the EU Defence Ministers, the focus of which will be the situation in Ukraine and its impact on the bloc’s security and defence.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Defence, during the meeting, in the presence of representatives from the UN, NATO and the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Security and Defence (SEDE), the impact of the Russian invasion at global and domestic levels will be discussed, as well as support to the Ukrainian people.

During the discussion, ways to address the gaps in the defence investments of the member states will be analysed, with the aim of achieving effective synergies in the development of defence capabilities and the strengthening of the European industrial base, the Ministry’s statement said.

While in Prague, Petrides will hold a meeting with the Minister of Defence of Romania, Vasile Dincu, during which the two Ministers will sign an agreement for the launch of defence cooperation between the two countries.
