Nicosia: A total of 18 individuals, including 14 Cypriot students, who were stranded in Tanzania amidst rising political tensions, are expected to return home by Wednesday. The group, which also includes two teachers and two additional adults, had traveled to Tanzania for voluntary work and successfully flew to Zanzibar on Monday, as confirmed by the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Theodoros Gotsis.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Gotsis detailed that the group made their way from Kilwa to Zanzibar and are scheduled to fly back to Cyprus on Tuesday, with a stopover in Dubai. They are anticipated to reach Cyprus on Wednesday morning.
Gotsis further mentioned that the group will spend Monday night in Zanzibar. The repatriation efforts are being coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with crucial involvement from the High Commissioner in Nairobi and the National Crisis Management Center. The operation is being conducted in close collaboration with the EU Delegation to Dar es Salaam to ensure the safe return of the 18 individuals.
