Cypriot MP George Loukaides Elected President of UEL Group in PACE

Strasbourg: Cyprus MP and Member of the Cypriot delegation George Loukaides was unanimously and unopposed elected President of the Political Group of the Unified European Left (UEL) in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) during a meeting of the Group on Monday.

According to Cyprus News Agency, this marks the first time a Cypriot MP has taken the helm of a Political Group within PACE, acknowledging his significant and long-standing contribution to European parliamentary diplomacy.

Loukaides has been a member of the Cypriot delegation to PACE since January 2012, with an active and long-term presence in the UEL Political Group. He has held several key positions over the years, including Vice-President of the Assembly, PACE General Rapporteur on Budgetary and Intergovernmental Programmes, Chair of the Sub-Committee on the Middle East and the Arab World, member of the UEL Bureau, and Treasurer of the Political Group.
