Cypriot mission reports progress in firefighting efforts in Greece

The situation in the area where the Cypriot mission operates in Greece, specifically in the Grammatiko region, is noticeably improving, as Press Spokesperson of the Fire Service Andreas Kettis, said in a post on “X,” (formerly Twitter).

He pointed out that efforts are underway to secure and contain the fire. Furthermore, he mentioned that ‘the second team of the Cypriot mission is currently on the way to the same area.’

Meanwhile, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a post on its official account on “X”, expressed gratitude to Cyprus for its assistance in extinguishing the forest fires raging in Greece.

“We warmly thank Cyprus for their assistance in extinguishing the forest fires affecting our country,” the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in the post, reposting a message from the EU Commission’s Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid (ECHO).

ECHO acknowledged Cyprus’s dispatch of two aircraft via rescEU, which are operating in Alexandroupoli, providing support to Greek firefighters battling the blazes.
