Current State in Cyprus Urges Immediate Action, Government Spokesman States

Paphos: The current state of affairs in Cyprus cannot be prolonged Government Spokesman, Constantinos Letymbiotis said on Sunday, delivering a memorial speech for fallen heroes of Tala village, in Paphos district.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Letymbiotis emphasized the importance of fulfilling the duty to honor the sacrifice of the fallen heroes and highlighted the need to defend the dignity of the Republic of Cyprus. He underscored the ongoing impact of the Turkish invasion and occupation on the island, stressing the pursuit of justice and freedom.

Letymbiotis reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to resume negotiations from where they left off in 2017, adhering to the acquis of the previous process, international law, UNSC Resolutions, and the principles and values of the European Union. He expressed readiness to convene an expanded conference under the UN Secretary-General's auspices.

He further emphasized the collective responsibility to ensure that future generations inherit a unified homeland where all citizens enjoy equal fundamental human rights, akin to other EU citizens. Cyprus remains divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion, with ongoing peace talks under the UN yet to achieve reunification under a federal framework.
