Nicosia: The number of chicks used for fattening experienced a significant increase of 20.7% year-on-year in June, reaching a total of 1,458,490. This is a noticeable rise from the 1,208,290 recorded in June of the previous year.
According to Cyprus News Agency, while the fattening sector saw growth, the number of female chicks intended for egg laying saw a slight decline of 0.2% in June. The figures dropped to 60,670 from 60,780 in June of the previous year.
Additionally, there was a notable decrease in poultry eggs for hatching placed in incubation for egg-laying purposes. These recorded a 38.1% year-on-year decrease in June, falling to 82,650 from the previous 133,500 observed a year earlier.
In contrast, hatching eggs placed in incubators for meat production showed an increase of 15.5%. The number rose to 1,843,260 in June, compared with 1,595,470 in the previous year.
