Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast for the sea area of Cyprus, indicating that seasonal low pressure is affecting the region. The forecast, covering an area extending 8 kilometers seawards, predicts mainly fine weather conditions with increased low cloud coverage during the night and early morning hours. There is a risk of local mist and fog patches, primarily over the southern and eastern coastal areas, which may lead to reduced visibility.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the atmospheric pressure at the time of the forecast's issuance was recorded at 1006 hPa. Despite the low pressure conditions, no warnings have been issued. The sea surface temperature is expected to remain at 29°C.
For various coastal areas, different wind patterns have been predicted. Along the west coast, winds are expected to shift from southwest to northwest at night, with conditions ranging from smooth to slight. By morning, these winds will change direction from south to southwest, and by afternoon, they will transition to southwest to west with potential intensity reaching Beaufort scale 4, making the sea slightly rougher in some localized areas.
The south coast will experience southwest to northwest winds at night, increasing in intensity to Beaufort scale 5 by afternoon, resulting in slightly rougher sea conditions. Similarly, the east coast will observe variable winds at night, shifting to a south to southwest direction by afternoon with a slight increase in wind intensity.
On the north coast, winds will initially blow from southeast to southwest at night, transitioning to southwest to northwest by morning. These winds are expected to maintain similar patterns throughout the day, leading to smooth to slightly rough sea conditions in certain areas. The forecast remains in effect from 1800 on August 5, 2026, until 1800 on August 6, 2026.
