Nicosia: Energy efficiency and effective energy management have become crucial for businesses due to rising energy costs and new legislative requirements. According to Cyprus News Agency, the new energy efficiency legislation introduces significant changes to business obligations, emphasizing energy consumption as the basis for energy audits and Energy Management Systems implementation.

Companies with an average annual final energy consumption exceeding 10 TJ may need to conduct an energy audit by 11 October 2026. Meanwhile, those with consumption above 85 TJ are mandated to implement a certified Energy Management System by 11 October 2027. This shift underscores the need for businesses to understand their energy consumption, assess their compliance with the new requirements, and prepare accordingly.

The Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) is addressing these changes through its involvement in the European project EcoSMEnergy - Empowering SMEs for Energy Efficiency. CCCI is organizing a free online workshop titled 'New Energy Management Requirements: What is Changing for Businesses and How Can They Prepare?' The workshop aims to provide practical guidance on energy consumption calculation, legislative changes, and the implementation of an Energy Management System, such as ISO 50001.

Scheduled for Tuesday, 29 September 2026, from 10:00 to 13:00, the workshop will be conducted in Greek by Marios Constantinou, an electrical engineer and energy consultant. Participants will gain insights into preparing for energy audits and meeting new requirements. The EcoSMEnergy project, co-funded by the European Union's LIFE Programme, supports SMEs in enhancing their energy efficiency and management practices in light of the new regulatory landscape.
