Bounced cheques follow an upward trend in the first five months of 2022

Number and value of bounced cheques included in the Central Bank’s of Cyprus (CBC) preliminary Central Information Register (CIR), show an upward trend in the first five months of 2022, according to data released Tuesday.

In the first five months of 2022, 172 cheques with a total value of € 838,109 were registered in the preliminary CIR, in relation to 133 cheques with a total value of € 385,007 in the corresponding period of 2021.

The number and value of bounced cheques registered in CIR increased in May 2022. Bounced cheques were 42 in May 2022, compared to 22 in May 2021 and just 9 in May 2020. The total value of these cheques reached € 91,888 in May 2022 compared to € 87,432 in May 2021 and € 13,008 in May 2020.
