Bilateral Ties and EU Presidency Discussed in President’s Meeting with Slovenian Premier

Portoro€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬¦¾: Bilateral relations and the priorities of the Cyprus EU presidency for the first half of 2026 were on the agenda of a meeting between President Nikos Christodoulides and Prime Minister of Slovenia, Robert Golob, held on the sidelines of the MED9 Summit in the city of Portoro€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬¦¾.

According to Cyprus News Agency, a written statement by the Director of the Press Office of the President, Victoras Papadopoulos, indicated that during the meeting, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the current level of bilateral cooperation and showed determination to strengthen relations between Cyprus and Slovenia in the fields of defense, tourism, trade, and services.

The President of the Republic also conveyed his gratitude for Slovenia’s consistent stance on the Cyprus issue and its long-standing involvement in the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus.

President Christodoulides took the opportunity to inform the Slovenian Prime Minister about the priorities of the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU. He highlighted that issues such as migration, security, the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), competitiveness, strengthening the autonomy strategy, EU enlargement, and enhancing the EU’s relations with the Eastern Mediterranean region and the wider Middle East will be emphasized.
