Cyprus appreciates China’s firm stance in support of a solution based on UNSC resolutions

Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Christodoulides, has expressed to his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi his appreciation for China’s firm stance in support of a solution to the Cyprus issue based on the relevant UNSC resolutions.

In a Twitter post, the Minister described their telephone conversation as “cordial”, noting he had the opportunity to brief Wang on “deliberations during @UN  talks on #Cyprob in #Geneva & exchange views on way ahead”.

He also “expressed appreciation for #China`s firm stance in support of solution based on rel.

UK delegation in Geneva talks on Cyprus did non deviate from UN parameters, say sources

UK sources have indicated that Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab did not deviate from the UN parameters regarding the settlement of the long-standing Cyprus issue during this week’s informal talks in Geneva.

A report by the Turkish Service of the BBC World Service suggested that Mr Raab presented two different proposals to the Turkish and Greek Cypriot sides during the Geneva meeting.

The first proposal envisaged the creation of a decentralized federation, while the second proposal was said to be based on the idea that Greek and Turkish Cypriots should mutually recognise each other`s existence, and Northern Cyprus should be regarded as a part of the EU but not have an international recognition.

Median age of patients in Famagusta Hospital at 62 years, youngest patient 32 years old

The median age of patients in Famagusta Reference Hospital stands at 62 years and the youngest patient is only 32 years old, Amalia Hadjiyiannis, Medical Director of the Hospital told the Cyprus News Agency.

 

She said that right now there are 68 patients in the Hospital and 6 of them are in the Advanced Care Unit (ACU). Another 110 people are at the Eden Rehab Center until they are fully recovered.

NPLs in Cyprus rise marginally in January 2021 due to interest capitalization

Non-performing loans (NPLs) in the Cyprus banking system rose marginally in January 2021, pushed upwards by interest capitalization at the end of the year.

 

According to data released by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC), NPLs, as defined by the EBA, amounted to €5.13 billion in January 2021, from €5.11 billion in end-2020, with the NPL to total loans ratio remaining unchanged at 17.7%.

 

In January loan repayment began after the nine-month payment holiday affecting €11.7 billion ended in December 2020, while a new moratorium covers a much smaller amount of loans.

 

Loan in arrears over 90 days (excluding restructured loans) also rose marginally to €3.95 billion from €3.94 billion in December 2020, the CBC said.

Industrial output prices index in Cyprus records annual decrease

The Index of Industrial Output Prices recorded an annual decrease of 1.8% in March 2021 compared to the same month a year ago.

 

According to the Statistical Service of Cyprus, the Index of Industrial Output Prices for March 2021 reached 101.5 units (base 2015=100), recording an increase of 0.2% compared to February 2021.

 

Compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, the index recorded a decrease of 1.8%. For the period January-March 2021, the index showed a decrease of 2.8% compared to the corresponding period of 2020.

 

In March 2021 compared to February 2021, the index remained stable in the sector of mining and quarrying, while it showed a rise in the sectors of manufacturing by 0.3% and water supply and materials recovery by 2.6% and a decrease in the sector of electricity supply by 0.7%.

Cyprus Residential Property Price Index declines for a second consecutive quarter

The Cyprus Residential Property Price (RPPI) Index marked its second marginal consecutive quarterly reduction in the fourth quarter of 2020, with the government’s interest rate subsidy scheme offsetting the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and reduced demand due to the termination of the Cyprus Investment Scheme, the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) has said.

 

The RPPI compiled by the CBC in the fourth quarter of 2020 marked a quarterly reduction of 0.2% following a decline of 0.

Liquidity in the Cyprus banking system close to €17 billion in March 2021

Liquidity (the difference between deposits and loans) in the Cyprus banking system amounted to 16.8 billion in March 2021, according to data published by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) on Thursday.

 

According to the CBC, total deposits in March 2021 recorded a net increase of €270.2 million, compared with a net decrease of €92.4 million in February 2021, with the annual growth rate at 1.7%, compared with 0.2% in February 2021.

 

The outstanding amount of deposits reached €48.4 billion in March 2021, the CBC added.

 

According to the CBC, total loans in March 2021 recorded a net decrease of €19.9 million, compared with a net decrease of €288.0 million in February 2021. The annual growth rate stood at 1.9%, compared with 2.1% in February 2021.

 

The outstanding amount of total loans reached €31.6 billion in March 2021.

Cyprus revenue from tourism drops by 92.3% annually in February

Revenue from tourism in Cyprus was down by 92.3% on an annual basis this February, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service, on Thursday, show.

 

In particular, on the basis of the results of the Passenger Survey carried out by the Statistical Service, revenue from tourism in February 2021 reached €3.8 mn compared to €49.5 mn in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording a decrease of 92.3%, as well as a decrease of 92.7% compared to February 2019 (€52.4 mn).

 

For the period of January – February 2021 revenue from tourism is estimated at €6.6 mn compared to €89.7 mn in the corresponding period of 2020, recording a decrease of 92.6% as well as a decrease of 92.8% compared to January-February 2019 (€92.0 mn).

Cyprus reports 2 deaths, 668 new COVID cases on Thursday, 279 patients in hospitals

Cyprus Health Ministry on Thursday announced 2 deaths from COVID 19 and 668 new cases, bringing the total of cases to 65,233 and the total of deaths to 308. The positivity rate stands at 1.79%. The Ministry also announced that 279 patients are getting treatment in hospitals and 75 are in serious condition. The median age of the hospitalized is 58.6 years.

 

The 668 cases were detected from a total of 37,325 tests (rapid and PCR).

 

The deceased are a male, 75 years old who was not vaccinated and passed away at the Nicosia General Hospital and another male 89 years old, who was vaccinated with both doses and died at the Nicosia Hospital.

 

From the 308 deaths, 202 are male (66%) and 106 female (34%) and the median age is 78 years.

 

From the 75 patients in serious condition, the 36 are intubated , 3 are in ICU and 36 in ACU.
