All COVID-19 measures and restrictions at ports and airports are lifted from June 1, Cyprus’ Transport Minister says

As of June 1, 2022, all COVID-19-related measures and travel restrictions at the Republic of Cyprus’ ports and airports will be lifted, Transport Minister, Yiannis Karousos, announced on Friday, after a Cabinet meeting that approved this suggestion by his Ministry.

Therefore, the Minister said, “from June 1, with regard to air transport and ports, we return to normality.”

According to a statement by the Ministry of Transport, the Council of Ministers, taking into account the current improved epidemiological outlook, both in Cyprus and globally, has approved the abolition of the existing Action Plan applied at Larnaka and Pafos Airports and the country’s ports.

According to the decision, all travellers arriving in the Republic of Cyprus, regardless of their country of origin, will not be required to present a valid certificate of vaccination or recovery or a negative PCR or rapid test.

In statements after the Cabinet meeting, Karousos said that flight occupancy is quite high, adding that they estimate that for this May, it will reach 77%, compared with May 2019, while on average, 30,000 passengers are expected per day.

“Efforts are being made, of course, to further increase this percentage, to further increase the flight capacity,” he said.

The Minister pointed out that the results are quite positive and that the goal set in terms of flight occupancy and the number of passengers, may now be exceeded.

Asked whether people will no longer have to have a protective mask on at the airports, he said that everything that was in the Action Plan is being lifted, and that the instructions of the Ministry of Health will now be followed. He added that if the Health Ministry puts airports on the list of high-risk places, then masks will be required, and if it does not, then, the use of masks will not be required.
