Copenhagen: The Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, is set to travel to Copenhagen on Sunday to participate in the Informal Council of Ministers responsible for European Affairs of the European Union (EU), organized by the Danish EU Presidency, between September 1 and 2.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Secretariat of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU announced in a press release that the Informal Council will commence with a working lunch, which will include candidate and potential candidate countries for EU membership.
The press release highlighted that the main session will take place on Tuesday, September 2, focusing on the significance of the Copenhagen criteria within the context of EU enlargement policy and the means of supporting necessary reforms. The discussion will also involve relevant Ministers from candidate and potential candidate countries for EU membership.
A subsequent discussion between the Ministers of the 27 EU Member States will address the strengthening of the rule of law. The Ministers are expected to exchange views on enhancing the EU’s rule of law toolbox, examining both its preventive aspects and its effectiveness in addressing violations.
The Informal Council will conclude with a working lunch dedicated to discussing the future of Europe, in anticipation of the European Commission’s pre-accession policy reviews to be presented in the autumn. On the sidelines of the Council, Marilena Raouna will conduct bilateral meetings as part of preparations for Cyprus’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026.
