Company building safety and security ecosystem to connect public safety agencies and enterprises to help protect people, property and places

NEW YORK, USA – EQS Newswire – 16 November 2023 – Motorola Solutions (www.MotorolaSolutions.com) proudly rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange, celebrating its continued, purposeful transformation centered on safety and security. Yesterday, the company announced its new brand narrative, ‘Solving for safer,’ which highlights its sharpened focus on solving for safer communities, safer schools and safer businesses.

“From our storied history, today we bridge to an even stronger future. Everyone is entitled to feel safe in their community, school and workplace, but that often isn’t the reality,” said Greg Brown, chairman and CEO of Motorola Solutions. “How Motorola Solutions is helping keep people, property and places safe is far more comprehensive than ever. While we recognize technology is not the only way to a safer future, it does play a vital role, and it’s our purpose to make that technology the best it can be.”

Motorola Solutions, traditionally known for public safety communications, has invested about $12B in organic R&D and acquisitions over the past nine years to create a robust technology portfolio spanning mission-critical communications, video security & access control and command center solutions powered by artificial intelligence. These solutions enable more powerful collaboration between public safety agencies and enterprises, connecting those in need with those who can help. For example, a school teacher can press a panic button on a phone during an emergency which can automatically notify law enforcement, trigger a lockdown, share live video feeds with first responders and send mass notifications.

Motorola Solutions’ transformation focusing on public safety and enterprise security has led to a sizable increase in its total addressable market which is expected to be $66 billion next year. In addition, its growth in video security, access control, command center and services is significant and now accounts for approximately 50% of company revenue.  To learn more about Motorola Solutions’ safety and security ecosystem, please visit: https://apo-opa.co/3sDpg6x

UK parliament votes against motion calling for ‘immediate cease-fire’ in Gaza

The UK parliament on Wednesday voted against a motion calling for an ‘immediate’ cease-fire in Gaza.

The Scottish National Party’s (SNP) amendment to the King’s Speech sought to call on the government to ‘join with the international community in urgently pressing all parties to agree to an immediate ceasefire.’

Some 125 MPs voted in favor of the motion and 293 others against.

The ruling Conservatives and the main opposition Labour Party’s leadership made it clear that they would not back the motion.

Prior to the voting session, Labour brought up its own motion which was denied by the majority of the chamber. The Labour amendment called for humanitarian ‘pauses’ as the party believes a cease-fire would harm Israel’s ‘right to self-defense.’

Dozens of Labour MPS have backed the SNP motion for an immediate cease-fire in the conflict, in contrast to the Labour leader.

In Labour, at least 19 frontbenchers (senior profiles) have expressed an opinion on the conflict at odds with their leader. Imran Hussain, a
shadow minister, quit his position last week in order to campaign for an immediate cease-fire.

Labour has ordered its MPs to abstain on the SNP’s motion, which meant that frontbenchers must resign or face the sack if they support it.

Prior to the voting session on Wednesday, Naz Shah, the opposition’s shadow Home Office minister; Helen Hayes, the shadow education minister; and Afzal Khan, the shadow trade minister; submitted their resignations from the shadow Cabinet.

Sarah Owen, shadow minister for local government, faith and communities; Rachel Hopkins, shadow minister for veterans; Andy Slaughter, shadow solicitor general; and the Parliamentary Private Secretaries (PPS) Dan Carden and Mary Foy also resigned from their posts.

Paula Barker has also resigned from the shadow cabinet in order to vote for a cease-fire.

Yasmin Qureshi confirmed that she is stepping down as shadow women and equalities minister.

Jess Phillips, the Labour MP for Birmingham Yardley, has quit the Labour frontbench over the party
‘s position. Phillips, who served as shadow minister for domestic abuse and safeguarding, said: “On this occasion I must vote with my constituents, my head, and my heart.”

Nearly 70 Labour MPs have defied their leader to call for a cease-fire, and nearly 50 councilors have resigned from the party over the leadership’s position on the war.

Following the vote, Labour leader Keir Starmer released a statement in which he defended his position.

‘I regret that some colleagues felt unable to support the position tonight. But I wanted to be clear about where I stood, and where I will stand. Leadership is about doing the right thing. That is the least the public deserves. And the least that leadership demands.”

Palestinian telecom firm announces complete blackout of services in Gaza

The Palestinian Telecommunication Group on Thursday announced a complete blackout of communications and internet services in the Gaza Strip due to the depletion of fuel.

‘We regret to announce that all telecom services in Gaza Strip have gone out of service as all energy sources sustaining the network have been depleted, and fuel was not allowed in,’ the group said in a statement.

In a separate statement, Ooredoo Palestine, another telecom company operating in the Gaza Strip, said: “We regret to announce to our customers and our community the suspension of our services in the south and some northern areas of the Gaza Strip due to the depletion of fuel.’

Earlier this month, Palestinian Communications and Information Technology Minister Yitzhak Sidr appealed to Egypt to activate roaming services and operate telecommunication stations near the Gaza border.

Hezbollah says it targeted 6 Israeli military sites

Hezbollah on Thursday said that it targeted six Israeli military sites near the southern border of Lebanon.

Hezbollah stated in multiple statements that its members targeted with ‘appropriate weapons’ a site in the Israeli town of Metulla, the Yiftah barracks in the occupied Lebanese village of Quds, a site in Bayad Blida and another in Misgav Am.

In another statement, the Lebanese group said that its fighters ‘targeted an assembly of an Israeli infantry force on the Qarantine hill near the Israeli site of Hadeb Yaron and another assembly of Israeli soldiers near the site of Shtula.’

Meanwhile, Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that the eastern sector of southern Lebanon witnessed Israeli shelling on Kafr Kila, Adaisseh, Taybeh as well as the area of chalets.

Czech Republic to criminalize pro-Palestine slogans in certain circumstances

The Czech Republic is preparing to criminalize a pro-Palestine slogan, according to a statement Thursday by the Interior Ministry.

“From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” used in protests to express support for Palestine, could be penalized as “propaganda of terrorism” in certain circumstances, spokesperson Klara Dlubalova said in a statement.

The use of the slogan in the context of the conflict in the Middle East is problematic and could be referring to the will to destroy Israel, it said.

Police will monitor the verbal or written use of the slogan during protests and will notify organizers of future demonstrations of its “problematic” nature, it added.

Israel has launched relentless air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip since a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group, Hamas, on Oct. 7.

At least 11,500 Palestinians have been killed, including nearly 8,000 women and children, while more than 29,200 have been injured, according to the latest figures from Palestinian authorities.

Tho
usands of buildings including hospitals mosques and churches have been damaged or destroyed in the Israeli offensive.

The Israeli death toll, meanwhile, stands at 1,200, according to official figures.

“From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” is a slogan that refers to the area between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, which includes Israel, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

It is commonly employed to describe the aspiration for a unified Palestinian state extending from the River Jordan to the Mediterranean Sea.

Ramallah Municipality, its churches cancel Christmas celebrations due to Israel’s war on Gaza

The churches and municipality of Ramallah in the central West Bank announced on Thursday the cancellation of all annual Christmas celebrations in the city, restricting the festivals to church services due to Israel’s destructive war on the Gaza Strip.

‘The municipality of Ramallah and the Council of Churches in Ramallah announce the cancellation of all Christmas celebrations held annually in the city. The celebrations will be limited to church services, prayers for our people in Gaza, for the souls of our martyrs, for the healing of the wounded, and for the grieving,’ Ramallah Municipality said in a statement.

It added ‘At this time every year, we prepare to decorate the city in celebration of Christmas, to welcome the holiday with joy and love. However, today, instead of bringing smiles to the faces of our children, we mourn for them. Instead of giving them holiday gifts, we can’t even send humanitarian aid to them (in Gaza) while they are under bombardment, war, and destruction.’

The statement lamented
that ‘our pain is profound’ as an isolated people standing in front of the occupation’s tanks and under the fire of its warplanes, which ‘carry out the worst massacres against our people in the West Bank and Gaza.’

‘We say to the world, stop the aggression on Gaza.’

This pain and loss of life are not recent but have recurred for 75 years, it said, adding, ‘Today, we have reached a point where we cannot even properly bury the bodies of our martyrs in Gaza and the West Bank due to the intensity of the bombardment and the destruction of all essential aspects of life.’

At a time when the world is preparing to celebrate the joyous Christmas season, the municipality said ‘Here in Palestine, the land of Christ, we welcome the holidays with increased pain and suffering.’

In every household, each of them is in pain, mirroring the suffering of Christ in his homeland, Palestine, it said.

Ukraine has formed 1st-ever drone fleet in Black Sea: Zelenskyy

“For the first time in the world, a fleet of marine drones — the Ukrainian fleet — began operating in the Black Sea,” Zelenskyy said on Telegram.

He said that the fleet would ensure the security of cargo vessels.

Thanks to Ukraine’s efforts, Russia cannot use the Black Sea for military purposes, Zelenskyy said, urging international partners to further enhance cooperation.

The Danube region is also becoming critical for global security, he said.
