Weak Low Pressure Influences Sea Conditions Around Cyprus

Nicosia: A weak low-pressure system is currently affecting the sea area around Cyprus.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Cyprus Department of Meteorology has forecasted weather conditions for the period between noon on February 7, 2026, and noon on February 8, 2026, covering an area extending 8 kilometers seawards.

The department reports locally increased cloud cover at times, with a risk of mist or fog developing during night and dawn hours. Visibility is generally good, though it may be moderate in some areas. The sea surface temperature is recorded at 18°C, with no warnings in effect for the forecast period.

The forecast details varying wind patterns and sea states across different coastal areas. On the West Coast, winds are expected to shift from southwest to northwest in the afternoon, with conditions ranging from slight to moderate. By night, winds will become north to northeast near the coast, with a slight sea state anticipated by morning.

The South Coast will experience winds shifting from southwest to west in the afternoon, with occasional increases to 5 or 6 on the Beaufort scale. Overnight, winds will decrease to a slight state, eventually becoming smooth by morning.

On the East Coast, the afternoon will see southwest winds, which will transition to a slight sea state by night. The morning will bring smooth to slight conditions as southwest winds continue.

For the North Coast, afternoon winds will range from southwest to west, initially at a slight to moderate state. By night, winds will maintain a slight to moderate level, settling slightly by morning.

The atmospheric pressure at the time of the report's issuance was 1009 hPa, indicating the presence of the low-pressure system influencing these conditions. The forecast highlights the ongoing transition of wind directions and sea states across Cyprus's coastlines during the specified period.
