Limassol: USS MITSCHER, an ARLEIGH BURKE-class guided-missile destroyer, has docked in Limassol, the US Embassy posted on X.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Embassy thanked Limassol for hosting the destroyer and noted that the ship is named after Admiral Marc Mitscher, a significant Navy officer during World War II. Admiral Mitscher was a pioneer of naval aviation and played a critical role in the Battles of Midway and Leyte Gulf.
The USS Mitscher was deployed on July 25, 2025, from Norfolk, Virginia, with the mission to deter adversaries, support American security, and protect economic prosperity. The Embassy also mentioned that the sailors aboard the USS Mitscher will have the opportunity to enjoy shore leave while in Limassol.
