USS Indiana Submarine Makes New Year Port Call in Cyprus

LIMASSOL: The USS Indiana, a nuclear-powered submarine, has arrived in Limassol, Cyprus, for a New Year port call, drawing attention from local dignitaries and international representatives. Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides is scheduled to visit the vessel on Tuesday afternoon, marking a notable diplomatic engagement during the submarine’s brief stay.

According to Cyprus News Agency, US Ambassador to Cyprus, Julie Fisher, expressed her welcome to the officers and crew of the USS Indiana through a post on ‘X’, highlighting the significance of the submarine’s visit for liberty and the New Year. The USS Indiana, named after the state of Indiana, features an insignia that celebrates Indiana’s racing heritage, symbolized by the iconic finish line racing flag.

The visit of President Christodoulides to the USS Indiana underscores the importance of the relationship between Cyprus and the United States, as the submarine’s presence provides an opportunity for bilateral engagement.
