US stocks close higher

Major stocks in the US closed higher Tuesday.

The Dow was up 134 points, or 0.4%, to finish at 33,739 and the S and P 500 added 22 points, or 0.52%, to 4,358.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, increased 78 points, or 0.58%, to end the session at 13,562.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 3.8% to 17.03. The 10-year US Treasury yield climbed 2.4% to 4.653%.

The dollar index lost 0.3% to 105.77, while the euro added 0.38% to $1.0605 against the greenback.

Precious metals fell into negative territory, with gold losing 0.06% to $1,866 an ounce and silver falling 0.27% to $21.83.

Oil prices declined around 0.6%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $87.58 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $85.79.
