US stock exchanges rack up 5-week winning streak


ISTANBUL: Major stock exchanges in the US closed Friday with losses to end their fifth consecutive week of winning streaks.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 145 points, or 0.37%, to finish the day at almost 38,628 as the blue-chip index lost 1.1% for the week.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, plummeted 130 points, or 0.82%, to close the day at 15,775 to record a weekly decline of 1.34%.

The S and P 500 dove 24 points, or 0.48%, to end the session at 5,005 and posted a weekly a decrease of 0.42%.

For the week ending Feb. 10, the S and P 500 closed above the 5,000 record-level for the first time in history. That week, the index posted a weekly gain of 1.4%, while it increased 14 of the past 15 weeks – a feat last seen in 1972.
