ISTANBUL: Major stock exchanges in the US opened Friday on a mixed note.
The Dow Jones, which includes 30 prominent American companies, fell 126 points, or 0.31%, to 40,539 at 9.42 a.m. EDT (1342GMT).
The S and P 500, on the other hand, added nine points, or 0.16%, to 5,554. The Nasdaq rose 24 points, or 0.12%, to 17,895 at the time.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 0.2% to 15.96. The 10-year US Treasury yield added 1.3% to 4.241%.
The dollar index increased 0.17% to 104.34 while the euro decreased 0.11% to $1.0884 against the greenback.
Precious metals were in negative territory, with gold losing 1.7% to $2,403 per ounce and silver declining 2.3% to $29.15.
Oil prices were down around 0.8%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $84.46 and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $80.51.
