US stock exchanges open Friday lower

Major stock exchanges in the US opened with losses on Friday. The Dow Jones was down 39 points, or 0.12%, to 33,375 at 9.34 am EDT (1334GMT). The S and P 500 fell nine points, or 0.22%, to 4,268. The Nasdaq, meanwhile, lost 62 points, or 0.48%, to 13,123. The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, lost 2.7% to 20.82. The 10-year US Treasury yield fell 1.26% to 4.928%. The dollar index shed 0.06% to 106.19 while the euro gained 0.15% to $1.0595 against the greenback. Precious metals were in positive territory, with gold adding 0.25% to $1,979 an ounce and silver rising 0.37% to $23.14. Oil prices were up around 0.8%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $93.13 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $89.06.
