US stock exchanges close higher


ISTANBUL: US stock exchanges closed higher on Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 50 points, or 0.13%, to finish the session at 39,169. The S and P 500 rose 14 points, or 0.27%, to 5,475.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, increased 146 points, or 0.83%, to 17,879.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, lost 1.8% to 12.22. The 10-year US Treasury yield climbed 3.1% to 4.474%.

The dollar index was almost unchanged at 105.83, while the euro rose 0.28% to $1.0741 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in the green, with gold adding 0.2% to $2,331 per ounce and silver increasing 1.1% to $29.45.

Oil prices were up more than 2%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $86.72 and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $83.47.
