US Expert Team’s Arrival Highlights Strong US-Cyprus Ties in Wildfire Investigation

Nicosia: US Embassy in Nicosia said on Wednesday that US collaboration with Cyprus in investigating recent wildfires in the district of Limassol underscores the strength of bilateral bonds and exemplifies how partners support each other in times of crisis.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Embassy expressed its honor in welcoming ten of the world’s leading fire investigators from the US to aid in the investigation of the devastating Limassol fire. The Embassy’s statement emphasized that this collaboration highlights the robust US-Cyprus relationship and serves as an example of mutual support during challenging times.

The expert team, which arrived on Wednesday afternoon, will remain on the island for ten days to assist in the investigation and assessment of the wildfire management. Their arrival follows a request from Nicosia for support in handling the situation.

The team consists of members from the US Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) unit. Cyprus’ President, Nikos Christodoulides, has urged relevant state services to cooperate fully with the team to ensure a thorough investigation and effective management strategies are developed.
