Nicosia: The University of Nicosia (UNIC) has successfully secured strategic degree status for its Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Accounting programme from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). This significant development is set to enhance the programme by offering students a direct pathway to undertake the ICAEW Professional Level examinations, known as Golden credits, during their undergraduate studies.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the programme previously offered eight credits for prior learning. The newly acquired strategic status allows students to integrate four ICAEW Professional Level exams directly into their academic journey. Professor Petros Lois, Head of the Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance at UNIC, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in aligning academic theory with professional practice, thereby accelerating students' paths to becoming chartered accountants.
Under this innovative model, ICAEW examinations are woven into the fabric of the BSc Accounting curriculum, enabling students to take computer-based exams upon completing relevant academic modules. This seamless integration ensures a progressive preparation for the exams, with ICAEW responsible for the assessment, marking, and reporting of results, thereby maintaining high standards of rigor and consistency globally.
