University of Cyprus Music Academy Announces Auditions for Young Musicians

Nicosia: The University of Cyprus Music Academy has announced auditions for a select number of spots in its esteemed string instrument classes, specifically targeting young children. The academy is offering three places each for violin and double bass, and one place for cello, with auditions set to be conducted in Nicosia and Limassol.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the audition process will occur in two stages, involving an interview and an evaluation by a selection committee. The academy has set specific age criteria for participants: children aged 7-14 can apply for violin and cello, while those aged 8-12 are eligible for double bass. For children aged 7-8, no prior musical training is required, as their admission will be based on an audition that evaluates auditory and rhythmic perception, focus, and adaptability. Children aged 9-14 or those with previous musical training must submit a video of a recent performance and participate in a live audition. This will include a prepared piece, sight-reading, technical exercises, and aural and music theory exercises.

The application process requires the submission of an expression of interest by a parent or guardian through the online form titled ‘Enrollment in the University of Cyprus Music Academy’. The deadline for submissions is set for Friday, 29 August 2025, at 17:00. Auditions will be held in the second week of September in Nicosia and Limassol. Successful applicants will commence their studies with a six-month trial period.

The University of Cyprus Music Academy is committed to fostering the development of young musicians by providing a nurturing environment that promotes the advancement of musical arts. The program is intensive, requiring students to attend sessions 3-4 times per week, including Saturday mornings, from September until the first week of July.
