University of Cyprus Maintains Global Standing in QS World University Rankings 2026

Nicosia: The University of Cyprus continues to maintain its presence in global academic excellence rankings, as reflected in the results of the QS World University Rankings 2026, announced on 19 June 2025. Ranked 452nd worldwide, the University reaffirms its steady position among the top institutions globally for the sixth consecutive year.

According to Cyprus News Agency, a press release by the University of Cyprus states that QS, the publisher of the annual QS World University Rankings, is globally recognised as a benchmark in higher education evaluation. Alongside the Times Higher Education (THE) and the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), the QS rankings are considered one of the three most influential university ranking systems worldwide.

The press release adds that QS evaluates institutions using rigorous and transparent criteria, including academic and employer reputation, research impact, international outlook, and teaching quality. “The continued inclusion of UCY in all three major global rankings reflects its sustained excellence in research and education, as well as its growing international visibility,” the University says.

Furthermore, it mentions that the 2026 edition introduces key methodological updates aimed at refining the assessment of universities globally. Notably, the new ‘International Student Diversity’ metric expands on the previous international student ratio by capturing both the proportion and diversity of nationalities represented, promoting a more inclusive view of global campus environments.

The University of Cyprus also notes that the evaluation now draws from an expanded research database that includes over 8,000 institutions, offering broader and more representative global coverage. “UCY remains the highest-ranked university in Cyprus, achieving the country’s strongest performance across all measured indicators,” the press release concludes.
