United Action Against Human Trafficking Project to Host Training at University of Cyprus

Nicosia: An event organized by CARITAS and the UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality will delve into the complexities of trafficking, with a specific focus on Cyprus. The initiative, titled the United Action Against Human Trafficking Project, is funded by the European Union under the Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community and is implemented by the Refugee Rights Association and Caritas Cyprus.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the project will include a series of capacity-building training sessions tailored for educators and school administrators. These sessions aim to raise awareness and strengthen the ability of educational leaders to combat human trafficking. Participants will receive training that equips them with the necessary knowledge and tools to identify, prevent, and respond to potential trafficking risks within school settings.

The training objectives are comprehensive, including recognizing key signs and indicators of trafficking among children and youth, understanding the forms of exploitation prevalent in Cyprus, and exploring support systems and referral mechanisms for students at risk. Additionally, attendees will learn how and where to report suspected trafficking cases, as well as the legal protections and responsibilities within the education sector.

The event is scheduled to take place on 13 May 2025, at 18.00, in Room LRC014 of the University of Cyprus Library. It is open to all educators, school administrators, counselors, and staff dedicated to ensuring the safety of students and promoting child protection. This initiative represents a significant step toward fostering safer educational environments and forming a united stance against human trafficking in schools.
