Nicosia: The United Nations neither confirmed nor rejected whether details published by The Independent correspond to an actual plan by the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy for resolving the Cyprus issue. Responding to a question from the Cyprus News Agency, UN Secretary-General's Spokesperson St©phane Dujarric acknowledged that the United Nations had seen the report.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Dujarric expressed understanding of the interest and curiosity surrounding the story published by The Independent. He stated, "We've obviously seen it, we've read the story," without confirming whether the reported proposals reflected, either wholly or partly, the Secretary-General's approach.
Dujarric reiterated that the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, Maria Angela Holguin, remain committed to supporting the leaders in Cyprus towards a resumption of the negotiations. The UN Spokesperson also mentioned that the Cyprus issue had been discussed during the Secretary-General's telephone conversation with the President of the European Commission.
