UK and Cyprus Collaborate Closely on Defence, Security, and Foreign Policy, States Lammy

Nicosia: The UK is actively collaborating with Cyprus in areas of defence, security, and foreign policy to ensure the safety of both Cypriot and British citizens, stated British Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, David Lammy. This partnership is aimed at enhancing security both domestically and internationally, according to Lammy’s recent post on ‘X’.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Lammy, during his visit to Cyprus, was received by President Nikos Christodoulides and engaged in discussions with his Cypriot counterpart, Constantinos Kombos. In a video shared on ‘X’, Lammy emphasized Cyprus’s strategic importance in the Eastern Mediterranean, highlighting its role in promoting regional security and stability.

Lammy pointed out the involvement of British troops along the Green Line, contributing to the ongoing United Nations peacekeeping mission. He expressed his gratitude towards Cyprus for aiding in the recent repatriation of British nationals from Israel, underscoring the close cooperation between the two nations.

The collaboration between Cyprus and the UK spans various domains including foreign policy, defence, security, and climate action. Lammy expressed his anticipation of further strengthening ties during the upcoming Cypriot EU Council Presidency, underscoring the mutual benefits of this partnership in safeguarding citizens of both countries.
