The USS Wasp, a key amphibious assault ship of the United States Navy, has docked in Cyprus in support of a long-planned partnership activities between the United States and Cyprus, as announced by U.S. Ambassador to Cyprus Julie Fisher.
Ambassador Fisher, in a post on social media platform ‘X’, stressed the significance of the USS Wasp’s visit, noting that it comes at a critical time for the region.
“The visit comes at a time when US continues all efforts along with key partners to de-escalate regional tensions and to be prepared to support civilians in crisis,” wrote Fisher.
The ship USS Wasp arrived in Limassol for a regularly scheduled port visit on August 8, the US Fleet Forces Command said in a statement on Thursday.
As stated, while in port, the ship and the 24th MEU (SOC) team will conduct a routine liberty port as well as participate in a community relations event in coordination with the Agios Stefanos Foundation.
It is added that the Republic of Cyprus is a frequent destination for US Navy shi

Cyprus and the United States announced last June the launch of a strategic dialogue to boost cooperation, following a meeting between Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington.
