Nicosia: Poland’s Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, has informed Cyprus President, Nikos Christodoulides, that he conveyed the European Union and international community’s positions on the Cyprus issue to Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. This communication was aimed at reaching a settlement based on the relevant United Nations resolutions, as stated by Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Letymbiotis shared that President Christodoulides and Tusk engaged in a telephone conversation at noon. During the call, Tusk, whose nation currently presides over the EU Council, briefed President Christodoulides about his recent visit to Ankara, where he met with President Erdogan.
Letymbiotis highlighted that President Christodoulides updated Tusk on the upcoming multilateral conference in Geneva focused on the Cyprus issue. Tusk, in turn, detailed how he communicated the EU and international community’s positions to Erdogan, emphasizing the importance of resolving the Cyprus matter in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
The leaders also discussed developments in Ukraine and Syria, in anticipation of the European Council meeting scheduled for the following week, Letymbiotis concluded.
