Nicosia: The Deputy Ministry of Culture has announced that, in response to public and local community requests, the ten frescoed churches of Troodos, listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites, will now be accessible to the public six days a week from Tuesday to Sunday.
According to Cyprus News Agency, these ten churches include: the Church of Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis in Kakopetria, the Monastery of Agios Ioannis Lampadistis in Kalopanayiotis, the Monastery of Panayia Forbiotissa (Asinou) in Nikitari, the Monastery of Panayia of Arakas in Lagoudera, the Church of Panagia of Moutoullas in Moutoullas, the Church of Archangel Michael in Pedoulas, the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Pelendri, the Monastery of Panayia of Podithou in Galata, the Monastery of the Cross of Agiasmati in Platanistasa, and the Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour in Palaichori Orinis.
The newly established visiting hours will be from Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 17:30, and on Sunday from 11:00 to 16:30, during the period from April 16 to September 15. From September 16 to April 15, the hours will be Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 to 16:30, and Sunday from 11:00 to 16:30.
It has also been noted that these churches will remain open on public holidays, except during major religious holidays such as Christmas, Easter (during Holy Week), and August 15.
