Nicosia: Toyota Cyprus has announced its ongoing commitment to the safety of its car owners, acknowledging the concerns surrounding the recall of vehicles equipped with Takata airbags. The company has conducted several recall campaigns over the past decade to address these issues.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the company has already replaced more than 19,000 Takata airbags in Cyprus as part of these safety campaigns. Toyota Cyprus highlights that approximately 85% of the pending recalls involve vehicles imported by traders or individuals outside the official Toyota network, known as ‘grey imports.’ These vehicles were brought into Cyprus without Toyota’s knowledge or assistance. The company is actively working with relevant stakeholders and authorities to find urgent solutions for these vehicles.
Toyota Cyprus advises vehicle owners who have not yet replaced their airbags to check the Department of Road Transport’s website to determine if their vehicle is affected by the recall. Owners of vehicles with European Type Approval EC-WVTA, such as those from Cyprus and the United Kingdom, should visit: https://forms.toyota.com.cy/recalls/eu-form-en to initiate the replacement process. For vehicles without European Type Approval, such as those from Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia, owners should visit: https://www.toyota.com.cy/forms/recall-enquiry.
The company provides a Takata Recall Customer Service Phone line at +357 22285700. Despite the high volume of requests leading to delays, Toyota Cyprus assures customers that it is making every effort to respond as quickly as possible.
