Total motor vehicles registrations increased yearly by 18.8% in January

The total registrations of motor vehicles in January 2023 increased by 18.8%, compared to January 2022, according to the report “Registration of Motor Vehicles”, published by the Statistical Service on Wednesday.

In January 2023, the total registrations of motor vehicles numbered 3,128 from 2,633 in January 2022, recording an increase of 18.8%.

Passenger saloon cars increased to 2,493 from 2,147 in January 2022, recording a rise of 16.1%. Of the total passenger saloon cars, 1,273 or 51.1% were new and 1,220 or 48.9% were used cars. Rental cars in particular recorded a rise of 53.1% to 271.

Additionally, motor coaches and buses registered in January 2023 increased to 11, from 2 in the same month of 2022.

Goods conveyance vehicles increased by 25% to 350 in January 2023, compared to 280 in January 2022. In particular, light goods vehicles increased by 30.7% to 281, heavy goods vehicles by 44.8% to 42 and road tractors (units of trailers) by 225% to 13, while rental vehicles decreased by 56.3% to 14.

Finally, mopeds < 50cc registered in January 2023 increased to 12, from 5 in the corresponding month of the previous year, while motorcycles > 50cc increased by 19% to 207 in January 2023, compared to 174 in January 2022.
