Total fuel sales up by 1.8% in September as sales from pumps drop slightly

Total sales of petroleum products rose slightly in September with fuel sales from petrol stations declining marginally amid rising fuel prices.

According to data released on Friday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus (Cystat), in September 2023, the total sales of petroleum products amounted to 130,673 tonnes, recording a small increase of 1.8% year on year.

Compared with September of last, year sales of kerosene rose by 6.7%, heavy fuel oil sales jumped by 219.9%, kerosene by 33.2% and light fuel oil by 11.7%.

On the contrary, a decrease was observed in the provisions of marine gasoil with 0.9%, sales of asphalt by 9.4%, heating gasoil by 3.4%, motor gasoline by 2.2%, road diesel by 2.1%) and liquified petroleum gases 1.9%).

According to Cystat, total sales from pumps declined by 1.6% year on year to 56,289 tonnes. Sale of unleaded gasoline declined by 1.8% whereas sales of road diesel was down by 1.6% year on year.

Compared with August 2023, the total sales of petroleum products in September 2023 recorded an increase of 4.7%.

The provisions of marine gasoil increased by 39.0% and the sales of road diesel by 8.3%, while the provisions of aviation kerosene fell by 6.6%, and sales of motor gasoline by 1.1%.

The total stocks of petroleum products at the end of September 2023 decreased by 4.8% compared to the end of the previous month.
