Nicosia: Total employment in the Broad Public Sector in the third quarter of 2025 reached 74,431 persons, according to data published on Monday by the Statistical Service. Employment in General Government was 69,346 and in Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies 5,085 persons. In General Government, which consists of the Government, Non-Profit Organisations, and Local Authorities, total employment reached 52,879, 10,429, and 6,038 persons respectively.
According to Cyprus News Agency employment in the Broad Public Sector increased by 1,294 persons (1.8%) compared to the same quarter of 2024. Employment in Central Government increased by 643 persons (1%), in Local Authorities by 550 persons (10%), and in Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies by 101 persons (2%).
The increase in Local Authorities' employment is mainly attributed to the rise in District Local Government Organisations' employment by 347 persons (40.9%). Compared to the second quarter of 2025, employment in the Broad Public Sector decreased by 2,883 persons (-3.7%). Employment increased in Local Authorities by 156 persons (2.7%) and in Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies by 46 persons (0.9%), whereas it decreased in Central Government by 3,085 persons (-4.6%). The decrease in Central Government's employment is mainly attributed to the decrease of employees with contracts of definite duration in the Educational Service (Government).
