Total amount of dishonoured cheques issued in 2022 increased by 62%

The total amount of the dishonoured cheques issued in 2022 is increased by 62%, according to data published by the Central Bank of Cyprus, regarding the Central Information Register (CIR).

A total of €1,518,669 and 473 cheques were issued, compared to €933,945 and 363 cheques in 2021.

Furthermore, legal entities registered in CIR in 2022 noted an increase of 60%, rising from 58 in 2021 to 93 in 2022. Physical persons representing legal entities also recorded an increase to 111, from 71 in 2021. On the other hand, the number of individuals registered was about the same, with 51 physical persons, compared to 50 in 2021.

In average, 21 persons (legal or physical) registered in CIR every month in 2022, compared to 15 last year.

Also, in 2022 a total of 176 legal persons were registered in the preliminary list of CIR, with additional 127 physical persons, compared to 99 and 95 respectively in 2021.

In December 2022, nine legal persons, 2 physical persons and 13 physical persons controlling legal entities were registered in CIR. Also, 33 dishonoured cheques were issued, with a total value of €65,649.
