The 4th Cyprus Forum, focused on Transparency, concluded its works on Saturday in Nicosia, with more than 200 distinguished speakers from Cyprus and abroad and 60 hours of discussions in four different conference venues in the divided city. This year’s Forum took place on Friday and Saturday and it was under the auspices of the President of the Republic. It was organized by the non-governmental organization Oxygono in collaboration with the Delphi Economic Forum. Cyprus News Agency served as one of its communication sponsors. Several diplomats, representatives from the United Nations, the European Commission and the Office of the European Parliament in Cyprus contributed to the discussions. Nikola Dimitrov, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia, Robert Vaas founder of Globsec, Terry Martin Harvard professor, the Auditor General of the Republic of Cyprus, Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Commissioners, Parliamentarians and MEPs were among the distinguished speakers. On Saturday, the second day of the conference, the topics focused on the role of the media in democratic societies, participatory democracy, artificial intelligence, the European elections, gender issues, a possible Cyprus Truth Commission, energy security, the environment etc. The speakers included the Children’s Commissioner Despo Michailidou Livaniou, the Environment Commissioner Maria Panagiotou, MPs, MEPs, former Ministers, academics and journalists. On Friday, discussions focused on democracy, transparency, diplomacy, technology, the economic model of the EU, the climate crisis, the tax model of Cyprus, the upcoming European elections, migration crisis, cooperation in the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean, energy and others. The notable speakers on day 1 were the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, with a video message, European Commissioner Vera Jourova, with a video message as well, Judit Rozsa, Director of Resources, Coordination and Aid Programme in the Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support of the European Commission, who addressed the delegates live via a video call and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Cyprus Colin Stewart.
