The 20th Games of the Small States of Europe Kick Off in Andorra

Andorra: The 20th Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) opened on Monday evening in Andorra with an elaborate ceremony at the capital’s ‘El Estadi Nacional’, scheduled to begin at 21:00 local time (22:00 Cyprus time).

According to Cyprus News Agency, the stadium, which will host the opening ceremony, has a seating capacity of 3,300. The event will see participation from 183 athletes representing Cyprus, with the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Costas Koumis, attending on behalf of the President of the Republic. Additionally, George Chrysostomou, the President of the Cyprus Olympic Committee (COC), and Yiotis Ioannides, Secretary General, will be present for the committee.

The ceremony will include a parade featuring over 1,000 athletes from the nine participating countries. Kalia Antoniou, a swimmer, and Odysseas Georgakis, a judo athlete, have been chosen by the COC to carry the Cyprus flag during the event.

The Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) will see more than 1,000 athletes from nine National Olympic Committees (NOCs) competing in 19 different disciplines in Andorra, running from 26-31 May.
